Andrea’s career spans 30 years of incredible experience in the beauty industry, specializing in cosmetology. If she’s not behind her chair working with a client, you may also find her in a classroom or shipping donated wigs to third world countries to under-served women through her Wig Initiative Group (WIG) and partnership with Quinnipiac University’s Albert Schweitzer Institute.

Andrea’s experience includes advanced education in hair cutting, coloring, customer service and beauty/hair related fields including a B.S. degree in Management.

She is a former educator for Scruples Professional Salon Products and La Biostetique France.

She has a Certification in Photo Styling Makeup. Her published photo work includes Passion Magazine, Modern Salon and various trade magazines and personal photo shoots. Her certified makeup artist classes include Francine Fontaine and Eve Pearl Cosmetics. Andrea is currently the cosmetologist/wig fitter at Smilow Cancer Hospital/Yale New Haven Health, currently consulting patients on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Volunteerism and Advocacy

Andrea founded the Wig Initiative Group (WIG) in 2012. Donated wigs are cleaned, sterilized and shipped to under-served women unable to obtain wigs and undergoing chemotherapy in places such as Guatemala and Nicaragua. So far over 1200 wigs have been donated along with hundreds of alternative head wear, breast prosthetics, and wig products.

Andrea is a 29 year volunteer for the American Cancer Society” Look Good Feel Better” program and past CT State Trainer/Area Trainer for the ‘Look Good…Feel Better” program (National Program sponsored by the American Cancer Society, The Personal Care Products Council and Professional Beauty Association- NCA) www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org Andrea is a state of CT Captain for the Professional Beauty Federation -Lobby group to keep Salon Professionals Licensed  http://www.probeautyfederation.org/

PAST Advocacy:
Advocacy Cancer Action Network Advocacy Group: Andrea worked with Advocacy group in Hartford to get CT’s ‘Wig Bill’ (legislative Bill 5464) passed through legislation. Currently, CT is one of six states that underwrite and cover wigs for chemotherapy patients/ Lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to support the passing of the 2009 FDA ban on flavored cigarettes and tobaccos.
